National Stress Month

National Stress Month

This April is National Stress Month, raising awareness of both the causes for, and solutions to, stress in our daily lives. Everyone has different triggers when it comes to stress, so it’s important to acknowledge when you're feeling overwhelmed or unable to cope. Learning to identify what causes stress for you can play a huge role in maintaining your positivity and emotional wellbeing, while incorporating small but powerful self care routines can help to support you through stressful times.

At Spotlight Oral Care, education, wellness and self care is at the core of what we do. One of the most common physical signs of stress is teeth grinding, also known as bruxism. According to a 2016 article published in the Journal of Conservative Dentistry, an estimated 13% of us experience frequent teeth clenching or grinding while sleeping, linked directly with stress and tension in our lives.

Over time, bruxism can cause tension or soreness in the jaw, headaches and can even result in the wearing down of tooth enamel. If this sounds something like you are experiencing we recommend following some of our jaw massages using a Gus Sha to relieve any tension in the area. We also suggest using our Toothpaste for Rebuilding Teeth, which has been clinically formulated to remineralise the teeth and reverse early signs of erosion and enamel loss. Try to relax your jaw during the day as much as possible to relieve stress and stop bruxism for good.

Maintaining your smile is just as important as looking after your hair or skin, and treating yourself to a personalised oral care routine can help to boost your confidence and release stress, too. In fact, it’s been scientifically proven that spending time pampering yourself triggers a series of mood-boosting chemicals in the brain, such as dopamine and serotonin. Light some candles, run a bubble bath and apply our Teeth Whitening Strips for a whiter, brighter, more confident smile in just 1 hour. Think of it as a face mask for your smile!

A little oral care goes a long way toward combating daily stress. Created with your oral care concerns in mind, looking after your oral health means supporting your overall health. Remember to relax, unwind and look after you this National Stress Month. 🧘‍♀️
